The Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is apparently headed to the U.S. later this month, as new FCC documentation shows certification for AT&T's LTE network.

Sony's latest Xperia Z2 Tablet is marketed as the world's thinnest and lightest waterproof slate and is expected to be in high demand. We now have proof that it is headed to the U.S. soon, and at least one carrier seems set to start offering the tablet later this month. Other carriers are expected to sell the Xperia Z2 Tablet as well, but no concrete details are currently available regarding their versions of the slate.

After some digging into the FCC's database, the folks over at Engadget have discovered some recently published documents of an SGP521 model from Sony. Engadget found that this model features a cellular radio that can connect to any network frequency in the U.S., but FCC's tests were conducted solely for LTE Band 17, which is AT&T's. The carrier will also sell a Wi-Fi-only version alongside the LTE-enabled one.

Sony has not offered any details so far regarding the Xperia Z2 Tablet's pricing in the U.S., but the slate has already gone up for pre-order in the UK for £499, i.e. roughly $825. It's quite a hefty price, and the official U.S. price tag is expected to come along the same lines.

For those unfamiliar with the device, the new Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet sports a 10.1-inch display with full HD resolution, a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage capacity. The slate runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and is both dust-resistant and waterproof. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 4.0, MHL 3.0, NFC, GPS, and optional LTE and HSPA+ support.

Sony has not offered exact launch dates for its latest tablet offering, but it did mention that the Xperia Z2 Tablet will make its debut worldwide in March. Consequently, the slate should hit the U.S. as well by the end of the month, and AT&T may be the first carrier to start selling it. So far only the AT&T model has popped up, but other carrier-branded variants will most likely surface shortly.
