Motorola announced May 13 event – Dirt-cheap Moto E ready to debut?
Alexandra BurlacuMotorola has sent out invitations to a May 13 event in London, where the company is widely expected to unveil its much-rumored Moto E smartphone.
While the invitation doesn't specifically mention what the event will be about, the general belief is that the Moto E will make its debut on that date. Speculations have been ripe regarding this purported device and if rumors prove to be accurate, the upcoming Moto E will be one of the best, if not the best budget smartphone. Motorola gives a few hints in the invite, but doesn't spell it out.
"Connect more people to the world's information and each other, and they can do great things," reads Motorola's document, as cited by Pocket-Lint. "Introducing the next smartphone from Motorola to make these connections happen. Made to last. Price for all," the invite further states.
While nothing is yet official regarding the Moto E, not even its name, some previous leaks have tried to paint a picture of what to expect. Based on rumors so far, the Moto E will be even cheaper than the company's popular Moto G, without compromising too much. The Moto G has proved to be Motorola's most successful device ever, and its dirt-cheap price played a big part in that achievement. If the Moto E is even cheaper and with better specs, it will surely be a blockbuster.
According to previous leaks, the Moto E could sport a 4.3-inch HD display with 720p resolution, a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, and 1GB of RAM. The handset will reportedly come with 4GB of internal storage capacity, which means it will likely have a microSD card slot for additional memory. The Moto G and Moto X lack this expandable storage option, but 4GB of storage is too little for most consumers, even when it comes to budget devices.
Other rumored specs for the Moto E include a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 1,900 mAh battery, and possibly even digital TV tuner support. Rumors have also indicated that the upcoming budget smartphone will be slimmer and sleeker than the Moto G. None of this is confirmed for now, however, so it is highly advisable to take everything with a grain of salt.
Either way, Motorola is planning to unveil something exciting on May 13 and we'll keep you up to date with all the juicy details, regardless of whether it's the Moto E or not. Stay tuned.
