Google has yet to launch a new Nexus device this year, but all signs point to an HTC Nexus 9 tablet arriving next month.

For quite some time now, HTC has been rumored to be working on a new Nexus tablet for Google. Also referred to as the Nexus 8 initially, or by the codenames "Volantis" and "Flounder," this Nexus 9 tablet from HTC is expected to pack top-notch specs and features all around.

Nexus devices have always been greatly popular due to their good specifications and affordable price tags, not to mention the much-touted Nexus experience that guarantees timely updates as soon as Google releases a new version of Android.

The rumored Nexus 9 tablet from HTC has leaked on several occasions so far, suggesting an imminent debut, and now it has popped up again. According to a new report from Portuguese tech blog 4GNews, HTC will take the wraps off the Nexus 9 at its upcoming "Double Exposure" media event scheduled for Oct. 8. HTC sent out invitations for the event last week, but it did not reveal what it plans to announce.

While the invite itself gave away no details on what to expect from the event, a source told 4GNews that the Nexus 9 should be waterproof, boast a "tube-shaped" 16-megapixel rear camera, Bluetooth functionality, and Wi-Fi connectivity, among others. Moreover, users will reportedly be able to control the Nexus 9 tablet from an Android or iOS smartphone, thanks to a special app developed by HTC.

The same source further confirmed some other specifications that had previously leaked for the Nexus 9, including a full HD resolution, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage capacity, 100GB of Google Drive storage for two years, and NVIDIA's powerful Tegra K1 processor under the hood. The Google Nexus 9 from HTC is also expected to be one of the first devices to rock the latest Android L out of the box.

It all remains in the rumor state at this point as we have no official confirmation, but with HTC's "Double Exposure" event just around the corner we may soon learn all there is to know about the Nexus 9 straight from the source. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available, but take everything with a grain of salt in the meantime.
