Xiaomi Mi 3, Xiaomi Mi 4 Android 4.4.4 KitKat custom ROM now available
Alexandra BurlacuXiaomi's Mi 3 and Mi 4 smartphones have have been highly acclaimed and are in high demand, and now they also benefit from a stock Android 4.4.4 custom ROM.
More often than not, Xiaomi smartphones sell like hot cakes, vanishing off store shelves in no time. The company has broken record after record in terms of fire sales and its devices have been highly successful regardless of generation.
Xiaomi devices, however, come with the company's heavily customized MIUI experience, which may not be to everyone's liking. MIUI is very popular in its home market, but as Xiaomi is slowly making its way to other markets across the world, interested customers may want a different UI experience.
The Xiaomi Mi 3 and Mi 4 handsets are widely successful partly because they come with very good specifications for their price tags, especially when compared to other smartphones in their category. The fact that stock Android 4.4.4 KitKat custom ROMs are now available for both devices should be a big plus for many, as it allows users to break away from the iOS-reminiscent MIUI experience and try an almost pure vanilla Android experience.
It's worth pointing out, however, that ROM flashing always involves some risks, and those who venture into this territory do so at their own expense. That said, those who want to get rid of MIUI, but still be able take advantage of the Xiaomi Mi 3 or Mi 4's hardware specs can now do so.
The new ROM that is now available for the two smartphones brings the vanilla Android experience to both the WCDMA and the CDMA variants of the Xiaomi Mi 3, as well as the Xiaomi Mi 4. As expected, this custom ROM also adds some new features that aim to improve the Android experience even further. Such features include the addition of a percentage indicator for the battery icon, as well as data speed display, double click to sleep (but not to wake up), keyboard LED control, and plenty of others. Moreover, the ROM also comes with superuser (root) enabled, and the listing also claims that it has over-the-air (OTA) upgrade support.
If you have a Xiaomi Mi 3 or Mi 4 smartphone and would like to ditch MIUI in favor of Android 4.4.4 KitKat, head over to the MIUI forums at this link to learn more, see screenshots, or to get the custom ROM. If you decide to proceed with this process, you can find a comprehensive flashing guide here. If you go forth and install the Android 4.4.4 custom ROM on your Xiaomi smartphone, drop by our comment section below and let us know how it all worked out.
