The upcoming iPad Air 2 has surfaced in a new batch of leaked images, revealing exciting details about its internal components.

Apple has scheduled a press event for Thursday, Oct. 16, when it is widely expected to introduce its new-generation tablets - the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3.

The rumor mill is always busy churning ahead of big product launches, and Apple product unveilings have always created a lot of hype with lots of leaks and rumors. The purported iPad Air 2 has already leaked on several occasions so far, and now more details have surfaced regarding its hardware specifications.

Taiwanese publication Apple Club has shared some intriguing images over the weekend, allegedly showing the iPad Air 2's logic board with an Apple A8X processor, which would mark an upgrade over the A8 chip found in the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The report also claims that Apple's upcoming iPad Air 2 will pack 2GB of RAM instead of the 1GB found on the current iPad Air. With an upgraded processor and more RAM, the new iPad Air 2 should be considerably faster and more powerful compared to its predecessor.

The images further show a cable for the rumored Touch ID fingerprint reader housed within the tablet's home button, a cable for the volume rocker, as well as the front panel assembly (see image above).

Previous rumors have indicated on several occasions that the iPad Air 2, as well as the iPad Mini 3, are expected to sport Touch ID fingerprint readers just like the iPhone. The latest leak showing the front panel assembly and the Touch ID cable now bolsters claims that the iPad Air 2 will come with Touch ID functionality. The image of the volume buttons, meanwhile, shows what seems to be a microphone, which may confirm previous whispers about a design change. More specifically, recent rumors claimed that the iPad Air 2 may ditch the physical button for mute/screen rotation lock, and the volume rocker cable shown in one of the newly-leaked images may illustrate this change, Slashgear points out.

Moreover, the purported logic board for the iPad Air 2 also appears to be different compared to the existing iPad Air, with a dedicated space for the SIM card slot. The current iPad Air has a separate compartment for this.

With nothing officially confirmed, however, it all remains in the rumor state for now. Apple will likely make its new-generation iPads official on Thursday, Oct. 16, which means that we'll hear the official scoop straight from the source soon enough. In the meantime, take all leaks with a hefty grain of salt.
