The latest Android 5.0 Lollipop is officially ready to hit the HTC One M8 and M7 GPE, as the OTA rollout is set to start today.

The HTC One M8 and M7 Google Play Edition (GPE) models have been waiting for the latest version of the Android OS for quite some time now, especially since they're part of the GPE family.

GPE devices are typically among the first in line to receive new Android updates, as they're part of Google's family. Just last week, word came out that Android 5.0 Lollipop testing for the HTC One M8 and M7 GPE was in its final stages, suggesting that an OTA rollout was just around the corner, but there was no clear information on when the update would actually start rolling out. Many expected Lollipop to start its journey to the HTC One M8 and M7 at the beginning of this week, which did not happen. Nevertheless, the big day has now finally arrived and the update is ready to roll out.

Moreover, the two handsets are all set to jump straight to the updated Android 5.0.1, build LRX22C, which might explain the slight delay. The company's Product Vice President Mo Versi took to Twitter to confirm that HTC has officially received technical approval from Google and it is ready to start rolling out the update to the HTC One M8 GPE on Friday, Dec. 5.

"M8 GPE Owners! We just received TA from Google!! I am very grateful for all your patience. OTA to start at noon on 12/5 (working to pull in)," reads the executive's tweet on Dec. 5.

The update is now live for both the HTC One M8 and M7 GPE, rolling out over the air (OTA). As always in this case, it may take some time for the firmware to hit all devices because the rollout is gradual.

Those of you who simply cannot wait for the update to roll out over the air, meanwhile, can also choose to manually upgrade their devices through stock recovery. Direct links are available for the OTA packages for both devices, and each of them weighs in at roughly 500MB. You can find the link for the HTC One M8 GPE OTA here, and the HTC One M7 GPE here.
