Sony is expected to unveil new Xperia Z4 Compact and Xperia Z4 Ultra smartphones at CES 2015 in January, and more information has now surfaced online.

The company's Xperia Z lineup of devices has significantly improved with each new addition, and the next generation is expected to be even more impressive. Rumor has it that Sony is gearing up to introduce a new Xperia Z4 Compact and Xperia Z4 Ultra at the CES 2015 trade show in January, and now more details have surfaced regarding the alleged specifications of the two devices. It's worth pointing out that these are not the only two devices from Sony expected at the show, but they will likely be the highlights of the announcement.

The Xperia Z4 Compact, as the name itself suggests, will arrive as the successor to the current Xperia Z3 Compact. The new iteration is expected to continue Sony's strategy to pack high-end specs and features into a compact form factor, unlike other "Mini" smartphones out there that typically come with watered-down specs compared to their flagship counterparts.

According to a new report from Android Origin, the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact will feature a 4.7-inch display with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and pack a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood, paired with 3GB of RAM. Other purported specs and features include 32GB of internal storage capacity, a 20.7-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front shooter, S-Master HX digital amplifier, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, Cat. 9 LTE, wireless charging, and IP68 certification for dust and water resistance. The handset could come with a 3,000 mAh battery.

The Sony Xperia Z4 Ultra, meanwhile, is expected to come with a massive 6.44-inch display, boasting a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Other purported specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and a 3,500 or 4,000 mAh battery to keep things up and running. This phablet is also expected to sport stylus input.

It remains to be seen, however, whether Qualcomm will have its Snapdragon 810 chipset ready in time for flagship devices set to debut at CES or MWC 2014. Recent reports have revealed that the chipmaker is still having some issues that may delay mass production of the Snapdragon 810, which would in turn affect the launch of several devices.

It's all still in the rumor state at this point, however, so take everything with a grain of salt for now.
