Microsoft just unveiled a new Nokia 215 entry-level phone priced at $29, arriving as the company's cheapest Internet-connected phone to date.

Ever since it acquired Nokia's mobile division, Microsoft has focused on affordable devices rather than high-end flagships. The company may have ditched the "Nokia" moniker from its Lumia lineup of Windows Phone devices, but the brand lives on with the new Nokia 215.

Coming at a dirt-cheap price of just $215, the Nokia 215 targets emerging markets, set to launch in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe later this year.

"With a price tag of just $29 before taxes and subsidies, Nokia 215 is our most affordable Internet-ready entry-level phone yet, perfectly suited for first-time mobile phone buyers or as a secondary phone for just about anyone," Microsoft boasts in its announcement on Monday, Jan. 5, on the rebranded Lumia Conversations blog.

At that price, as one would expect, the Nokia 215 is a low-end feature phone that doesn't have much to offer in terms of specs. The handset runs Nokia's Series 30 operating system, and comes in both single- and dual-SIM variants. Unlike other devices in the company's low-end lineup, however, the Nokia 215 can run popular apps such as Facebook, Messenger, Twitter, Opera Mini browser, Bing Search, or MSN Weather.

Being a feature phone with entry-level specifications, the Nokia 215 will also deliver a long battery life, as it doesn't have high-end internals to draw much power. The handset will last for 29 or 21 days on standby (single-SIM/ dual-SIM), and 20 hours of talk time.

Moreover, the Nokia 215 also features microSD support for additional memory of up to 32GB, which means that it could easily serve as a reliable MP3 player without discharging too soon.

All in all, the Nokia 215 sports some notable improvements over the $25 Nokia 130 phone the company launched back in August, as that model didn't even offer Internet connectivity. At $29, the Nokia 215 sounds like a pretty good bargain.
