OnePlus One owners are in for some good news, as the company just released the highly-anticipated OxygenOS that brings a taste of Android Lollipop.

The release comes one week later than originally scheduled, but it's nonetheless good news to see it finally available. The new OxygenOS replaces the CyanogenMod ROM the OnePlus One smartphone has been running so far, bringing much of the features and design of Google's latest Lollipop version of Android.

"It's time to take the next step. By creating our own operating system, we can quickly respond to user feedback and make it easier for you to continue playing a fundamental role in the future of OnePlus. Our goal for OxygenOS is to provide faster, more meaningful updates and a better-integrated range of services for every OnePlus user," the company explains in its announcement.

"Developing OxygenOS has been an incredibly fun and challenging experience for all of us. In this environment where everyone is fighting to standout with custom ROMs, we think it's important to go back to basics. We place things like performance and battery life over gimmicks and bloated features."

The company further notes that it has already implemented some notable features, albeit they are subtle. According to OnePlus, the new OxygenOS aims to provide essential features while keeping it light.

The new OxygenOS is available now for download on the OnePlus One website, along with detailed instructions on how to install the software on your smartphone. As previously mentioned, the new OS version will completely replace the previous CyanogenMod ROM, which means that users will have to manually wipe and flash their device for the upgrade.

Highlight features of OnePlus' OxygenOS include a neat file manager, as well as new lock screen and quick settings customizations such as re-ordering options by preference.

Lastly, the new OS also retains some features from Cyanogen OS 11, such as the ability to draw on the screen and launch apps quickly.
