HTC One M8 will get Android 5.1 Lollipop, Sense 7 in August
Alexandra BurlacuHTC One M8 owners in the UK will get a software update to the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop and HTC Sense 7.0 in August.
Most One M8 owners who have decided against upgrading to the latest One M9 flagship are wondering when they will get the latest software, and the company has finally offered a timeframe in this regards.
In response to a question it received on Twitter, HTC UK revealed that the One M8 will receive the latest Sense 7 software, along with Android 5.1 Lollipop, this August. This means that it will still take a few months for the HTC One M8 to get the newest software, but at least now we have a timeframe for when it will start rolling out.
At the same time, it remains unclear when the HTC One M8 in other regions will get the same treatment. Considering that this information comes from HTC UK, it's safe to assume it refers to the UK rollout, but we have no details regarding a global release at this point.
The new HTC One M9 flagship made its debut back at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in early March, rocking a new Sense 7 UX with a slew of improvements and neat new features. HTC Sense 7 comes with new location-based home screen folders, a neat theme engine that allows users to customize their device with various wallpapers, icons, and sounds, and much more.
The latest HTC Sense 7 is an impressive improvement over the previous Sense 6, which the HTC One M8 still runs. While Android 5.1 Lollipop and Sense 7 will not roll out until August, at least in the UK, HTC One M8 owners will still get some of the new software features through individual app updates. HTC has already started to roll out such updates to its own apps such as the Gallery, Camera, Zoe, and Clock via Google Play, so One M8 owners can get a taste of the latest HTC software features even before the big update starts rolling out.
More information should soon be available regarding the Android 5.1 and Sense 7 update for the HTC One M8 in other markets as well, and we'll make sure to keep you up to date.
