Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 leaks in new image, seems thicker than expected

The purported Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has leaked in a new image ahead of its expected debut next month, but it may not be as thin as rumored.

Just recently word came out that Samsung is gearing up to launch a new-generation Galaxy Tab S2 series of premium tablets next month, and an official changelog for the Hancom Office Hshow 2014 app also confirmed the Galaxy Tab S2 existence.

The latest leak, meanwhile, now claims to show what the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 may look like, and it seems that it may not be as thin as previously rumored. So far, whispers have indicated that the Galaxy Tab S2 may be thinner even than Apple's iPad Air, which is currently the thinnest tablet on the market. The tablet shown in this newly-leaked image from @OnLeaks looks pretty thin, but not to the extent rumors hinted.

The image further shows that the purported Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 features a SIM card slot next to the microSD card slot, which means that it will launch with cellular connectivity on board. Based on this render, the slate seems to be roughly 5.8 - 5.9 mm thin, not 5.4mm-thin as previously rumored. The image doesn't reveal much else, so it remains unclear for now just what other goodies the Galaxy Tab S2 will bring to the table.

So far, leaks and rumors suggested that the Galaxy Tab S2 will feature a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, a 64-bit Exynos processor under the hood, and a sleek metal body for a more premium look and feel. Samsung is expected to launch two models with 8-inch and 9.7-inch screen sizes, and offer both Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + LTE versions.

Other rumored specs for the Galaxy Tab S2 include an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front shooter, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage capacity expandable via microSD, and Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

Considering that the original Galaxy Tab S came with a design language similar to the then-flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone, the new-generation Galaxy Tab S2 may borrow design cues from the recently-launched Galaxy S6 flagship.

No other details are available at this point regarding the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, but additional information should come to light shortly. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, but take all leaks with a grain of salt in the meantime.
