Apple Update: iOS 8.4.1

Apple Update: iOS 8.4.1

Apple Music has a lot of kinks to work out and the consumer's cries for help did not go unnoticed. Apple finally released a minor update that contains a lot of improvements and fixes for its music service. The iOS 8.4.1 will be the only update to go live before the iOS 9's big debut.

Here are some of the changes made to Apple Music:

  • The iCloud Music can now be turned on without any problems
  • The issue that hides added music has been fixed
  • Users can now add songs to a new playlist if there are no playlists available
  • The issue that shows a different artwork for an album has been fixed
  • Issues have been fixed for artists posting to Connect
  • Tapping Love while listening to Beats 1 now works

Many tech experts believe that this update is more of a band-aid solution until the new version of iOS eventually takes over. This small gesture of consideration would definitely help keep users from swapping out Apple Music for other services available. Apple has grabbed a considerable piece of the pie, with 11 million subscribers. Other services still have the lion's share with Pandora boasting an 81.5 million active users and Spotify with 20 million of its own.

Taking over the music business will be a long and difficult path, but we believe Apple has the right tools to do so. Apple is already one of the biggest music retailers and it's only natural that it takes a shot at the music streaming service. While some tech pundits believe Apple should have bought out Pandora instead of Beats, we believe that Beats brings something to the table that will jive with Apple's vision.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Nine Inch Nails frontman and Beat's chief creative officer, Trent Reznor, commented that the other streaming services felt like they were designed by engineers. He goes on to say that it becomes pointless if your service feels more like a 'utility' more than anything else. Reznor's approach to music streaming is similar to your favorite indie station, where they play what's cool and not necessarily what's charting.

Also included in this latest iOS update are some minor changes to iTunes that also relate to Apple Music's usability. You can view Beats 1's broadcast schedule when you click on the banner, see a list of the artists that you listen to on Apple Music, and many more.
