Acer’s Predator 6 and Predator 8: Mobile Phones for Gamers

Acer introduced a new line of powerful smartphones in Wednesday's presentation at the IFA 2015 electronics show in Berlin. The new gaming device lineup, dubbed as "Predator", offers an impressive physical appearance backed with powerful game-centered specs. Designed to look like a gaming handheld device, it has sharp edges and a massive 10-core processor.

Jason Chen, the company's CEO, promises that the device will "dominate any games you throw at it." Creating a whole new niche of smartphones dedicated for gaming is not a bad idea. A lot of the high end games are being ported to mobile devices and it's only appropriate that they should not be hindered by the mobile's low end specs. Just how big of an improvement does the Predator have over current flagship phones? Take a look at this:

Processor:  Deca-core (probably the Helio X20 with 2x Cortex-A72 @ 2.5GHz, 4x Cortex-A53 @ 2.0GHz, 4x Cortex-A53 @ 1.4GHz); compared to Samsung Galaxy S6's Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57 and iPhone 6 Plus' Dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone (ARM v8-based)

Display: 6 inches; compared to Samsung Galaxy s6's 5.1 inches and iPhone 6 Plus' 5.5 inches

Internal Memory:  4GB RAM; compared to Samsung Galaxy S6's 3GB and iPhone 6 Plus' 1GB

Primary Camera: 21 MP; compared to Samsung Galaxy S6's 16 MP and iPhone 6 Plus' 8 MP

The full specs sheet for the Predator 6 is still very much a secret, but it will be released alongside a tablet form, the Predator 8 with an 8-inch 1920 x 1200 pixel display running the Android 5.1 OS. It will also have a 64 GB internal storage plus a microSD slot up to 128GB. It will be powered by Intel's Atom X7 processor and will measure 8.7 mm thin at 350 grams. Will this help Acer carve out a whole new market? Only time will tell and we're very excited to find out.
