HTC Vive VR Launch Delayed For A Big Tech Breakthrough
Mary Cris BalancioHTC has recently made a big technological breakthrough, so big that it was one of the reasons that the anticipated release of the HTC Vive VR was delayed. During the Vive Unbound developers' gathering in Beijing, HTC CEO Cher Wang announced the information about the breakthrough.
According to Wang, the breakthrough was significant enough to make them take the time necessary to get things right even if it meant not being able to launch their product at the set launching date. Wang also said that they didn't want their users to change their systems later on just because they need to be able to launch on the said date.
Although no other details were provided during the gathering, Wang did confirm that the details of the breakthrough will be officially revealed during the CES, which will happen early January next year. Therefore, consumers will have to wait a bit before finding more about it.
The HTC Vive, which original launch date was supposed to be within the year, has been moved to be released by next year, with no specific target date. Though it was delayed, what seems to be images of this new device has been leaked online. This week, images of the headset plus controllers made round on the Internet.
On a related topic, aside from HTC's Vive VR, there is also another virtual reality accessory set to make its debut this 2016. The product will be including a stationary bike that will have the users pedalling through VR.
Next year, tech company Sony is also set to launch its virtual reality headset. Details on the PlayStation VR are still vague though, but hopefully small information like its target release date will come to light soon.
Meanwhile, another VR product, the Oculus Rift, will be released by New Year, and CEO of the company Palmer Luckey announced that it might be costly and priced at more than $350 USD. And while Oculus has dropped hints of its product's pricing, HTC Vive's pricing is pretty much shrouded in mystery for now.
