"Penny Dreadful" season 3 has ended with its ninth episode entitled "The Blessed Dark." For fans who haven't watched it yet, spoilers for part 2 have already been spread on the Internet. In this episode, Vanessa dies at Ethan's hand to save the world, which is explained to be the and of the show. 

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the season 3 finale is the end of Showtime's "Penny Dreadful". John Logan and Showtime CEO David Nevins revealed the details of their decision to end "Penny Dreadful" in an interview. 

"I was planning out the third season. Penny Dreadful is about many things, but for me it's always been about one really simple thing, which is a woman's journey of faith......So I had the discussion with Eva, and then finally it just became apparent. I talked to David about it, and here we are, " said Logan in the interview. 

As the psychological thriller story set in the dark places of Victorian London has reached its finale, fans were eager to know the reason behind the words "The End" on the screen. Is it the end of the show or Vanessa? 

The words appeared on the screen after The Creature alias Caliban or John Clare recited a poem at Vanessa Ives' grave.

Some fans believed that the words from William Wordswoth's "Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood" connects to that her death was real, according to Variety.

As the series' Season 3 part 2 Finale broadcasted on Father's Day, it started with showing the city of London that is almost graveyard-like as thousands were killed by a local dock worker, darkness filled the streets and dealing with Vanessa's death.

As she said "Let it end" and Ethan pulled the trigger, Eva Green's character didn't die in vain. Fans view it as her sacrifice so that others could live, reported Entertainment Weekly.

Meanwhile, during an interview in 2014, series creator and writer John Logan said, "charted it up to the third season in terms of where I wanted to take the story, where I wanted to align to some of the classic novels that inspired it and some of the ways I wanted to variant those things," according to Deadline.

"Penny Dreadful" season 3 summed up with Sir Malcolm Murray and others battle against Dracula's legion and Ethan's future were cleared with Vanessa's death. Thus, the happenings will clear the sky and bring brightness unto the streets of London.
