In "Total War: Warhammer," war is brewing, and you need to know which side you are on.

There are a total of five factions, but which one should you pick? Here's a quick guide on the different factions to help you make the ultimate choice and get you started with "Total War: Warhammer."

Dwarfs

Dwarfs hold the game's largest technology tree, and paired with strong defenses, this race could be unstoppable. The dwarfs also has access to a large network of underground passages, which makes moving across impassable terrains easier.

Difficulty Level: Easy

Recommended for: Beginners due to Dwarf's high HP, and players who do not want to micro-manage units

Key Units: Ironbreakers, Irondrakes, Longbeards, Slayers, Gyrocopter, Flame Cannon

Legendary Lords:

Race Leader: High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer (Melee)

Ungrim Ironfist (Melee)

Greenskins

The Greenskin race is one of the most aggressive forces in the game, and are constantly seeking enemies to fight with. With an army of Orcs and Goblins supported by Trolls, Giants and Spiders, the Greenskin army is highly versatile, but the difficulty lies in its poor economic capabilities, making it hard to reproduce new troops.

Difficulty Level: Hard

Recommended for: Aggressive players, with the ability to continuously attack nearby enemies with low upkeep units

Key Units: Night Goblins, Trolls, Arachnarok Spider, Doom Diver Catapult, Giants

Legendary Lords:

Race Leader: Grimgor Ironhide (Melee)

Azhag the Slaughterer (Melee)

The Empire

The last bastion of Humankind, The Empire is the most balanced race in the game, offering a flexible mix of units. The Empire has access to powerful war machinery and a wide selection of mage support. As the race which plays similarly to the traditional "Total War" factions, those who are familiar with the franchise can jump right in.

Difficulty Level: Normal

Recommended for: "Total War" veterans

Key Units: Warrior Priest, Celestial Wizard, Demigryph Knights, Steam Tank, Luminark of Hysh

Legendary Lords:

Race Leader: Emperor Karl Franz (Melee)

Balthasar Gelt (Caster, Lore of Metal)

Vampire Counts

The Vampire Counts race may have no ranged weapons, but its real power lies in the ability to summon the undead, with Necromancers summoning zombies and skeletons on the battlefield. The undead race also has some of the best flying units in the game. These, coupled with powerful magic and fast-flanking cavalry, make Vampire Counts a force to be reckoned with.

Difficulty Level: Normal

Recommended for: players who want to experience a different gameplay style from the previous "Total War" titles

Key Units: Grave Guard, Crypt Horrors, Varghulf, Vargheists, Terrorgheist

Legendary Lords:

Race Leader: Mannfred von Carstein (Caster/Melee, Lore of Vampires/ Lore of Death)

Heinrich Kemmler (Caster, Lore of Vampires)

Warriors of Chaos

The Chaos Warriors faction is an additional race in "Total War: Warhammer." The Chaos are mainly composed of heavily armored infantry and beasts. They forgo diplomacy and trade and pillage and raid every village they can find.

Difficulty Level: Normal

Recommended for: players who prefer aggressive gameplay, but find Greenskins too difficult

Key Units: Chaos Warriors, Chaos Dragon Mount, *Forsaken, *Dragon Ogres, *Gorebeast Chariot, Hellcannon

Legendary Lords:

Race Leader: Archaon the Everchosen (Caster/Melee)
