'Red Dead Redemption' Rumors: Don't Expect Xbox One Backwards Compatibility; Website Update Does Not Mean It's Coming
Jazz RosinThere are just too many rumors about Rockstar Games' "Red Dead Redemption 2" on the Internet. The latest rumor has pointed to the game's Xbox store page being updated recently.
A Redditor posted a screengrab of the recently updated "Red Dead Redemption" page on the Xbox Store as available, speculating that the game is possibly coming to the Xbox One as a backwards compatible title.
Fellow Redditors slammed the speculation, saying that all Xbox 360 games in the store say the same thing, and does not mean anything.
"Since RDR still had a page even though it's not BC [backwards compatible], then it has to say that," Redditor ItsNotDylan wrote. "This doesn't mean anything."
Some Redditors also said that a backwards compatible "Red Dead Redemption" is not possible at this point due to multiplayer issues.
The Reddit post is now tagged as "misleading."
"Red Dead Redemption" is one of the fans' most requested backwards compatible title for the Xbox One, along with "Call of Duty: Black Ops II" and "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim."
Despite its popularity among fans, however, Rockstar Games has not announced any plans to support Microsoft's Xbox Backwards Compatibility scheme so far. None of its popular game titles like "Red Dead Redemption," "Grand Theft Auto" and "Bully" are on the list.
In a separate interview with Eurogamer last year, Microsoft's group program manager Richard Irving confirmed that licensing is an important element when considering backwards compatible titles.
"After the technological breakthrough that got backwards compatibility working, the next step was to figure out how to license all this content, originally released on Xbox 360, for Xbox One." Irving told Eurogamer.
Irving said that Microsoft is "definitely engaged" with all publishers and developers, including Rockstar.
With Xbox One backwards compatibility a no-no for Rockstar Games at the moment, it might be a sign that the developer is focusing on "Red Dead Redemption 2."
