The latest NBA trade rumors have brought forward Los Angeles Lakers new strategy to pick new players this season. Reports claimed that Lakers desire to make a trade involving a big-name player this year which have raised the possibility of some head-turning deals.

According to Eric Pincus from Basketball Insiders, Los Angeles Lakers are planning to restrict contracts of some players in order to create salary cap space for a major deal.

"The team has held off the signing of Tarik Black, Marcelo Huertas and second-overall pick, Brandon Ingram, keeping an eye on what could be $13.6 million in cap room assuming the team also waives and stretched Nick Young," said Pincus, as reported by Lakers Nation. "The Lakers do have an unnamed trade target in mind, but are also preserving space for another opportunistic Calderon-like deal."

The NBA trade rumors hinted that Lakers might be eyeing Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook for a big trade this season. Reports claimed that the Los Angeles team is planning to further improve its talented roster including D'Angelo Russell, Brandon Ingram, Larry Nance Jr., and Ivica Zubac by adding Westbrook. However, no official confirmation has been provided from either of the teams. Also, reports claimed that OKC Thunder is not willing to trade Westbrook this season.

Meanwhile, The Bit Bag reported that Los Angeles Lakers might also think of trading in Sacramento Kings' power forward DeMarcus Cousins with the help of their new strategy. Reports claimed that the Lakers is expected to trade their power forward Julius Randle in order to get Cousins.

Furthermore, amidst NBA rumors that Cleveland Cavaliers are in trade talks with Cousins, few reports have stated that he might be on his way to the Lakers team. Silver Screen and Roll reported that the 25-year-old player recently tweeted that Los Angeles Lakers has always been his dream team right from his childhood.
