'The Last of Us 2,' 'Dead by Daylight': More Games Not For The Faint Of Heart

Videogame is a medium for relaxation, challenge and bonding. However, not all videogames are easy on the eye. Here are some of the old, new and upcoming titles that features extreme violence, story and mechanics not just for adults, but for those who don't easily cringe at visuals and story that are even NSFW (Not Safe For Work).

Manhunt Series (2003 - 2007)

A stealth-based survival horror game published by Rockstar North. Players take control of James Earl Cash, a death row prisoner who is forced to join a film production where the goal is to kill or be killed and the most brutal manner possible.

The second game stars Daniel Lamb, which had the chance to escape the asylum where he had no idea why he ended up at in the first place.

The violence in the game was so realistic that it even got banned in certain countries. The stories behind the "Manhunt" games are rated "Mature" by ESRB for all the right reasons.

The murder of Stefan Pakeerah was even associated with the obsession of the game.

Dead By Daylight (June 2016)

"Dead by Daylight" is a multiplayer game where 4 players taking the role of Survivors will be pit against 1, who will be taking the role of the Killer.

The Survivors play in third-person perspective, giving them a leeway with their environment, while the Killer is locked to first-person in order for them to focus on their prey.

It may sound simple on the surface, until players get to actually play the game themselves.

The mechanics are easy to follow, but the flow of the game can easily make the players feel extremely immersed in the game. Thanks to the visuals, ambiance and graphics.

Levels are procedurally generated, giving players a new experience in every session and survival is the top priority. Moral can be overlooked by outwitting not just the Killer, but the fellow Survivors too.

As for the Killer, they can take the role of any popular horror anti-hero like a Slasher to a paranormal entity. Catching the victims is one step. Torturing them is another and the final sacrifice could be as fulfilling.

The Last of Us 2 (2018)

The original "The Last of Us" was one of Naughty Dog's greatest masterpiece, if not the greatest. It lets players take control of Joel, the game's protagonist, from the start of the Cordyceps infestation, which costed his daughter's life up to the downward spiral events, 20 years later in search of finding a vaccine.

"The Last of Us" was praised for the great story, tight gameplay, and extremely graphic visuals (especially the death scenes.) The story may still be a bit tame for general audience, but the realism of the death scenes and the actual horror and fear that the game instill is far beyond just a game of shooting moving beings.

Fans are expecting "The Last of Us 2" to be of the same quality or better from it predecessor.

Honorable Mentions

Aside from these titles, there's also "Dead Space" for the unique sci-fi horror that will actually scare anybody. Another is "Outlast" for a very immersive survival horror experience presented in a documentary-style footage reminiscent of "The Blair Witch Project."

There's also "Darkness II" which showcases a protagonist with a grasp of the darkness' power allowing him to kill enemies in extremely graphic and brutal ways.

We'll keep you posted as we await the release of "The Last of Us 2" as it may top this list sooner or later.
