NBA Trade Rumors: Russell Westbrook To Stick With Oklahoma City Thunder For The Next Season?

The latest NBA trade rumors hinted that top player Russell Westbrook might stick with his team Oklahoma City Thunder. Reports claimed that the point guard is planning to play the upcoming NBA season with the team.

"According to sources with knowledge of the situation, Westbrook doesn't want to be traded," said ESPN's Royce Young. "He wants to play next season with the Oklahoma City Thunder." Reports claimed that the main reason behind Westbrook's probable decision is to maintain OKC's credibility in the league.

Lakers Nation reported that Westbrook has no desire to be traded in the next NBA season as he knows that the team will be shattered since they have already lost many of their star players. Reports claimed that Westbrook will soon announce his firm decision about his future planning in a few days' time.

Meanwhile, NESN reported that OKC Thunder might think of trading Westbrook anyhow because of the ambiguous situation at their disposal. The team has notions that even if the point guard wants to play for the next season, it doesn't guarantee that he will stick around after his contract term ends.

Reports claimed that if the Thunder lose Westbrook as a free agent next summer, then it will be a huge loss for the franchise. Already, the OKC team lost two of their major players this year like Kevin Durant and James Harden and got almost nothing from their trade.

Furthermore, there are reports that if Thunder decided to put Westbrook on the trading block, then there are many teams that will be interested in taking him in. The Los Angeles Lakers team is stated to be the frontrunner in the competition to trade in Russell Westbrook including teams like the San Antonio Spurs, the Denver Nuggets, and the Boston Celtics.

The NBA trade rumors hinted that the Lakers want to make a big deal this season and wipe off their underdog status completely. In order to do that, the Lakers have kept Brandon Ingram, Tarik Black, and Marcelo Huerta's contracts on hold and leave the salary cap space. This will enable them to accommodate big players like Westbrook or even Sacramento Kings' DeMarcus Cousins.
