As consumers continue to wait for MacBook Air 2016 updates, a new report appeared to have already confirmed the rumors hinting at its discontinuation.

Based on the latest news, there are several reasons why there a number of tech sites are thinking that there is indeed a huge chance that it will no longer come.

While the other Apple laptop, the MacBook Pro, is expected to get an upgrade soon, there has been less and less report on the possibility that the MacBook Air lineup will get the same in 2016.

According to Apple Insider, it seems that the direction in laptop design that the American tech giant is adopting this time is the production of thinner and lighter units.

As how the report would put it, "the MacBook Air hasn't seen a significant update in years, it continues to feature a low-resolution non-Retina display, and its role in Apple's lineup has been severely diminished by the 12-inch MacBook."

As outdated as it is, Apple Insider pointed out that it might just fade away and the company might decide that instead of coming up with a MacBook Air 2016 update, it will offer the current models at low prices.

In the meantime, Mac World UK stated that the update provided for the said unit on April 19 was "underwhelming."

It can be noted that the MacBook Air just got an 8GB onboard memory standard was only made available for the 13-inch variant.

As narrated by tech blogger Jack March, a source who is privy of the situation reportedly shared that Apple is about to "ditch" the Air lineup, not just the MacBook but as well as the iPad unit.

Meanwhile, Mac World UK said that if ever Apple decides to continue with the production of Air, it is expected that the release date of MacBook Air update will not be in 2016, but early 2017, instead.
