In this age of smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, one would think that a point and shoot camera like the Fujifilm Instax mini 8 would be rendered near obsolete.

Well, guess again.

There is still something magical - and sentimental - in snapping a photo and printing it without actually using your handset and portable color printer, according to Nerd Wallet.

Okay, pictures taken using the Fujifilm Instax mini 8 may not garner hundreds or thousands of likes, as they can't be automatically uploaded on your Instagram of Facebook accounts.

However, these photos are priceless because of the raw emotion one feels upon holding and viewing a physical picture of a loved one, or a memorable tourist spot you recently visited.

So what exactly makes the Fujifilm Instax mini 8 great?

Although the camera has a modern look and feel, fans of the old school Polaroid will be pleased to know that it is equipped with features that are reminiscent of traditional point-and-shoot digital cameras.

For starters, the camera has a fixed shutter speed of 1/60 second, an automatic flash, and a brightness adjustment dial that can be positioned to fit different scenery and weather conditions (indoors/night, cloudy/shade, sunny/slightly cloudy and sunny/bright).

Moreover, Fujifilm Instax mini 8 has a high key mode that's capable of producing soft impression photos, and can instantly print 2.4×1.8-inch (62×46 mm) pictures.

Plus, the Mini 8 comes in a variety of bright colors: raspberry, grape, white, pink, blue, yellow, and black.

In the meantime, Instax Cameras highlighted the other features of the Fujifilm Instax mini 8, which makes it a good buy for photo hobbyists. 

Despite its bulky appearance, the camera only weighs just 307g and its dimensions are 116 x 118.3 x 68.2 mm.

It also comes with Instax Mini Instant color film of 62 x 46 mm picture size (10 pictures) and utilizes two AA size 1.5 V alkaline batteries.

The Fujifilm Instax mini 8's manual exposure control and automatically built-in flash of 0.6 - 2.7 m focusing range is also a big help especially during poor lighting conditions.
