'The Sims 5' Rumors Squashed: Release Date Not Expected Anytime Soon

C. de Lacy

Is "The Sims 5" going to see the light of the day anytime soon? Despite rumors, facts and theories says it's unlikely.

For some odd reasons, fans and some news sites are rounding up rumors and news that had been around for almost more than a year and with really no decisive information regarding "The Sims 5."

There are a couple of factors to consider why the release of the game isn't something that fans and players should and should not expect.

One thing to look at is the release pattern of the games in the series. Maxis, the producer of the games, always had a knack for releasing each installment between five-year gaps, and given that the "The Sims 4" was released way back 2014, "The Sims 5" may come around 2019 if they even plan on doing it.

Another matter to consider is the fact that "The Sims 4" didn't do really good in terms of sales and consumer reception, garnering an underwhelming 70/100 on Metacritic and 6/10 on Gamespot. For a Sims game, this is very low compared to its predecessor "The Sims 3" which got 86/100 and 9/10, respectively.

If fans could remember, Maxis did say that if "The Sims 4" won't do that good, "The Sims 5" won't be developed at all. This has been confirmed by Rodiek himself in the sims official forums.

"We're not working on Sims 5. We're not thinking about Sims 5. If Sims 4 isn't successful, there won't be a Sims 5." - Rodiek posted as a response for a fan's question in the forum.

However, things might have changed here as this response has been way back more than a year though no official tweet, trailer, teaser or any information or hint regarding "The Sims 5" has been released. Not even at this year's E3, which also lacked the fans' much awaited console port of "The Sims 4."

"The Sims 4" is only available for the PC and Mac and this could be a bit concerning given that every single core "The Sims" game had been released for other platforms besides the PC.

Releasing "The Sims 5" isn't exactly a bad move if ever Maxis decides to put it out on the table, but it would be best not to bet on it given the factors and signs we've seen over and over again for more than a year.
