'Pokémon GO' Strongest Eevee Evolution Guide: Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Umbreon Or Espeon?

Jazz Rosin

For many years and after more Pokémon generations have passed, fans have debated over this burning question: Which among Eevee's many evolutions is the strongest? Now we bring this debate over to today's hottest mobile game, "Pokémon GO."

Here is an in-depth analysis on the fox-like Pokémon's many evolutions, which will help us decide who will come out on top.

Generation I Eevee Evolutions, Ranked: Vaporeon, Flareon, Jolteon

First, we will compare the Kanto Pokémon evolutions against each other based on their CP values per level.

According to Rankedboost's CP Tier list, those Pokémon with the highest CP growth rates are rated on the top tier, the S-rank tier.

Among the first generation evolutions, Water-type evolution Vaporeon is still on top of the list, boasting a huge 40 CP growth rate, and a maximum CP of 2816. Following closely behind is Fire-type evolution Flareon, getting 39 CP's per level and with a maximum CP of 2643. Both types are considered as S-Rank Pokémon.

As far as CP is concerned, electric-type evolution Jolteon gets left behind, gaining only 31 CP per level. Jolteon is classified as an A-Rank Pokémon in terms of CP growth.

Eevee is on the B-tier, getting only 16 CP per level with a maximum CP value of 1077.

These numbers, however, can vary depending on the Pokémon's individual values, which is explained in more detail on the Pokémon GO Hub.

Eevee Evolutions: Strengths And Weaknesses

CP value aside, a Pokémon's type can easily turn the tide of the battle, especially during gym takeovers.

In the strength category, Flareon and Vaporeon are tied on the top spot, as both are strong against three types, while Jolteon is only strong against two.

For weaknesses, Vaporeon has the least among the three, being only weak against Electric and Grass-type Pokémon.

However, Jolteon and Flareon are both weak against three different Pokémon types.

Note: Steel Types are not counted as they are not available in Gen I yet, hence not available in "Pokémon GO" at the moment.

What About The Generation II Evolutions: Umbreon And Espeon

Just to clarify, both Umbreon and Espeon are not available in the game yet, but we have included them for the sake of comparison. Without any CP values to compare, we move on to their strengths and weaknesses based on their types.

Espeon is a psychic-type, and as such is weak against Ghost, Dark and Bug types.

Umbreon, on the other hand, is a dark-type Pokémon. Dark types were only introduced in Generation II, and had no weaknesses until Generation VI.

If pitted against each other, Umbreon will get the upper hand, as Dark types are strong against Psychic types. However, until these two are included in the game, we cannot speculate any further than that.

The Verdict

Despite the nerf, Vaporeon is still the strongest Eevee evolution in "Pokémon GO" as of this point. At the end of the day though, this still ultimately depends on the Pokémon's CP level and movesets, so we can't write Jolteon and Flareon out yet.
