Will Oklahoma City Thunder Trade Russell Westbrook In 2017?
Dheeraj ROnce again Russell Westbrook is surrounded by the NBA trade rumors, which have indicated his possible departure from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Reports claimed that the Thunder might trade him next year if he is unable to give his best performance in the upcoming season.
Sports Rageous reported that even though Westbrook has signed a three-year $85 million deal, he will have to prove his mettle in the upcoming NBA season. Reports claimed that the Thunder is chalking out future plans in order to save themselves from any Kevin Durant and Serge Ibaka like situation.
The trade rumors stated that the Thunder will first observe the 27-year-old's performance in the 2016-17 NBA season and then decide whether he will be the best fit on their roster for next year, reported Basketball Insiders.
Furthermore, reports claimed that the OKC Thunder might trade Westbrook if he is unable to pull the team into the playoffs appropriately. However, it is stated that the power forward's new contract cannot be traded off for the first six months, which is until the first week of February 2017 after the start of the training camps in October 2016.
This is rumored to have provided Westbrook a window of opportunity to perform better for his team and thus reserve his place in the OKC Thunder roster after the playoffs.
On the other hand, there are reports that Westbrook is the only player that will be able to take the OKC Thunder to the top in the upcoming season and provide tough competition to other teams in the NBA league like the Los Angeles Lakers, the Boston Celtics, The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls.
Moreover, it is stated that Westbrook has an average of 23.5 points per game, 7.8 rebounds per game, 10.4 assists per game and 2.0 steals per game in the last NBA season. Reports claimed that he will team up with other talented players like Steven Adams, Enes Canter, and Kylie Singler in order to help the Thunder win many games this season.
