'Mistresses' Season 5 Not Happening? ABC Series Cancelled Due To Ratings Drop?

ABC's American mystery drama "Mistresses" just concluded its fourth season with 13 episodes on September 6. Thus, fans are already hopeful for a season 5 renewal. However, recent reports claimed that ABC might cancel the series.

"Mistresses" season 5 is unlikely to happen as ABC still has not given an official renewal order. Furthermore, according to Carter Matt, the renewal odds for the drama series is pretty low given the show's performance in ratings.

It was added that the latest season 4 has reportedly received a 15 percent drop in ratings compared to season 3 ratings.

Without knowing it, season 4 may have served as the series' finale, not giving a full closure for its fans, reports claimed. However, some reports have contradicted to this, saying that ABC might give the show another year to provide the cast and crew of "Mistresses" some means to tie up some loose ends.

To recall, Rina Mimoun, one of the executive producers and who co-wrote the teleplay of the series said that the network did not tell them to make a series finale during an interview.

However, she said that she and the showrunner Josh Reims are still in the process of trying to sell the network on the idea of "a final fling" of 13 episodes possible to air in 2017.

"We really feel like there's one more year of story to tell, but we're also looking for a graceful way to wrap up the series," Mimoun explains, "There'd be some new hot messes in the mix, and we'd be moving back toward the kind of racy romp that Mistresses was when it began."

A report noted that there is still high possibility for a "Mistresses" season 5 renewal and ABC is just simply holding off on the announcement. However, since both cancellation and renewal news are still uncertain, fans remain hopeful that ABC will give the show another year.
