Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" has returned to ABC for its fourth season with a new kind of superhero in town, the "Ghost Rider." Interestingly, reports claim it's not a huge shocker if "Punisher" comes over.

The latest season started Tuesday night and with the new director and team being split up, it was reported to be not the same show but rather darker, edgier and fiercer "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

For weeks, ABC has been hyping the return of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" on the strength of a single character: Ghost Rider. He is the most well-known Marvel figure that the series has been permitted to use in its narrative.

Actor Gabriel Luna talked about how he ended up playing Ghost Rider and getting into the character.

"So, we were in Marfa and I got a call from all of my folks, saying that they had finally cracked the lid on who this character was," the actor shared in a Collider interview. "They had been approached about a character on Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." I had still being weighing what I was going to do next, and they're good with keeping secrets."

He added that he was thrilled when he finally knew he will be playing as the "Ghost Rider" since he was a big fan.

He also emphasized that the character is very different from others viewers have seen on the show before.

"What we haven't touched on are things that can't be explained perfectly by science." the actor said. "It's a lot of really fun stuff that starts to lean into the world of Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider and Mephisto, and all of these other elements that also exist there, like ghouls and goblins and all sorts of cool things. We're happy to be the ones to break the ice on that."

While, the "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 4 will continue its Ghost Rider bent with next week's "Meet the New Boss," there were reports claiming that Jon Bernthal's Punisher will make an appearance on the series too as "Punisher" co-creator Gerry Conway recently reported showed up to the "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4 premiere screening.

However, fans can take this with an entire island's worth of salt for the moment as there was no official statement from both TV series management network yet.
