Canon ESOS M5 Review: Mirrorless Camera Shines With Built-In EVF, DIGIC 7 Processor, Fastest Autofocus
PrakashThe Canon EOS M line finally launched the much anticipated, the EOS M5 as a redesigned mirrorless camera.
For the first time, the Canon EOS M line is featuring a built-in 2.36-million-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF). It clearly shows Canon's desire to complete in the mirrorless world against Nikon and the likes.
Giving a tough competition to the other mirrorless cameras, the new M5 boast a large 24.2 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, powered by a DIGIC7 Image Processor and with an ISO range of 100 to 25,600.
The M5 has the fastest autofocus speed of any EOS M camera so far. It enhances the manual focusing with a focus peaking feature that highlights in-focus areas in the EVF and on the LCD.
Another latest feature for this mirrorless camera includes a low energy Bluetooth smart feature which allows the camera to stay connected with smartphones running the Canon's Camera Connect application.
In terms of wired connectivity, the EOS M5 include provision for Micro USB, Type-D Micro HDMI, external microphone and wired remote controls.
With improved ergonomics and operability, it features a continuous shooting speed of 7fps (up to 9fps with AF Lock), 5-axis digital image stabilization, a 3.2-inch tilt LCD screen with 1.62 million dots, Full HD 60p video recording in MP4, and Wi-Fi and NFC.
Canon EOS M5 looks different than the previous models with a new physical redesign and interface. Based on the manufacturer rating of EOS M%, the performance is quite improved. Also, Canon is rating the startup time of the new camera as one second, approximately 66% faster than the EOS M3.
The new Canon EOS M5 stores data on Secure Digital cards, including the higher-capacity SDHC / SDXC cards, and the higher-speed UHS-I cards.
With 295 shots to CIPA testing standards, the battery life have been improved substantially, which draws power from the same LP-E17 battery in the EOS M3.
The new Canon EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM kit lens, which has a high-zoom ratio and a 4-stop image stabilization system is announced alongside the EOS M5.
The Canon EOS M5 will be available starting November, 2016 with a price tag of $980 for the body only.
