BlackBerry seems to be in a hurry to take on other brands. A new smartphone has recently been spotted at GeekBench, rumored to be BlackBerry Mercury. From what is available, it seems like the model is competent enough to take on big names, including the iPhone 7.

While the new BlackBerry smartphone seems to be of 4.5 inches, the iPhone 7 is 4.7. According to GSM Arena, the Mercury smartphone is expected to be of a 1080p screen with aspect ratio of 3:2 compared to the aspect ratio of 9:16 of iPhone 7.

The new model from BlackBerry is expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, whereas the iPhone 7 is powered by A10 Fusion. Thanks to A10 fusion, the iPhone 7 would be having faster CPU speed compared to the upcoming BlackBerry model.

When it comes to RAM capacity, from what is available the Mercury smartphone is of 3GB capacity beating the iPhone 7 which comes with 2 GB RAM capacity. Digital Trends reports that the BlackBerry Mercury would be having a battery capacity of 3200 mAh. With that battery capacity, it is sure to beat the iPhone 7 which comes with slightly lesser capacity.

The other rumored specifications of the Mercury smartphone are in the camera. While the iPhone 7 sports a 12 MP rear camera and a 7 MP front camera, the new Mercury smartphone is expected to come with 18 MP rear camera and a 8 MP front camera. The new smartphone from Mercury seems to be a winner here.

It is not certain whether BlackBerry device would be sporting the trademark QWERTY keyboard that the BlackBerry is most known for. It is highly likely that the trademark physical keyboard could appear as it has a 4.5-inch display.

From what is available, it seems like the BlackBerry Mercury could give some serious competition to the iPhone 7 and other premium 2016 models. If rumors are true then the new dark horse smarphone could be out by the end of 2016.
