Nokia has unveiled two new mobile phone models on Tuesday, May 15, as part of its strategy to connect the "Next Billion" audience to information and the Internet. For the first time in a budget-minded lineup at the extreme low-end, Nokia's 1 Series phone feature Internet access and a camera. There will be four 1 Series variants on offer: the dual-SIM handset Nokia 110 comes as the cheapest, at €35 ($45) unsubsidized, along with its single-SIM Nokia 111 sibling. The dual-SIM Nokia 112 and the single-SIM Nokia 113 option come at €38 ($49).
The Nokia 110 and Nokia 112 have both been designed for young, urban consumers who want to enjoy a fast, affordable online experience, with a powerful device at the low-end of the market. Both handsets are great for communicating across social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and other social media networks, and Nokia also added its Nokia Browser for a smoother Internet experience.
Browsing, Social Media & Apps
The Nokia Browser innovative technology compresses Web sites in the cloud, thus allowing users to consume up to 90 percent less data. Both the 110 and 112 models offer direct access to Facebook and Twitter via shortcuts on their home screens. In addition, the Nokia 112 also comes with preloaded eBuddy instant messaging service out of the box.
Just like with other Nokia mobile phones, users can choose from thousands of apps in the Nokia Store. Meanwhile, the upgraded camera allows users to customize their contacts with pictures, and share images via social networks and Bluetooth. "Today's mobile phone users want a quick internet experience that allows them to discover great content and share it with friends - but without being held back by high data costs," said Mary T. McDowell, Nokia's executive vice president of Mobile Phones, as cited by Reuters. "The new Nokia 110 and Nokia 112 devices combine browsing, social media, apps, world-class entertainment and long battery life to create a great package for young, urban consumers who want to do it all."
Features
Nokia's 1 Series devices all feature a 1.8-inch display optimized for an entertaining gaming experience, and the Nokia 110 and Nokia 112 will bring free 40 key EA Games in the coming months. The games are valued at €75 if bought separately, but keep in mind that data costs may apply although the games come free on the two new Nokia models. Such games include popular titles like Tetris, Bejeweled, Need for Speed The Run, Monopoly Here & Now, and SimCity Deluxe.
This content can be easily accessed via the Games Gift EA icon on the home screen of the phones. Clicking on this icon will take users to the Nokia Store to download the games. Once you access the offering, you will have 60 days to download the games you want, and you can then keep them forever.
Both the Nokia 110 and the Nokia 112 feature an improved VGA camera, as well as support for up to 32GB of additional memory. Bluetooth will allow consumers to tune into radio stations and share content with friends, and the battery life provides over 10 hours of talk time and nearly a month in standby.
Dual SIM
The Nokia 110 and Nokia 112 are both dual SIM handsets, working with Nokia's industry-leading Easy Swap technology. Users can switch between SIM cards more quickly, without the need to remove the phone's battery or turn off their phone, and the Easy Swap technology can personalize and remember up to five different SIMs.
The Nokia 110 will be available in single-SIM versions as well: Nokia 111 and Nokia 113, with the latter available only in Europe and Eurasia. The Nokia 110 and its single-SIM versions are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2012, while the Nokia 112 is expected to start shipping in the third quarter.
