The Nikon D5600 might just be the perfect gift this holiday as it is packed with features that will surely sweep any beginner off their feet, but is it a more worthy upgrade or first choice compared to its predecessor?

The Nikon D5600 has been officially announced for and will be coming around this holiday season or early 2017. For those who have been using entry-level cameras and still isn't prepared to make the big jump to D5000 series' bigger brother, the D5600 might be a great option.

However, some may still be skeptical as the model it succeeded, Nikon D5500, seems to share a lot of common things with the newer iteration.

The Nikon D5600 and the D5500 do not really have that much difference aside from some few upgrades, which might be hardly noticeable. These include a slightly lighter body, the ability to make time-lapse shots, Automatic ISO using the Fn button, improved touchscreen interface and some small tweaks.

One of Nikon D5600's primary exclusive features is th SnapBridge support, which lets the camera stay connected to a smart device. This features automatic transfer of photos, auto synch, auto location and some standard wireless features.

However, the features mentioned are pretty much what the D5600 has as an advantage over the D5500. Almost every key features like the sensor size, screen size, auto focus points and maximum burst shot is still the same.

For those who would like to upgrade to either of the models, at this point, the logical choice would be the Nikon D5500 as it is technically the same camera with the absence of a streamlined SnapBridge.

However, if this feature is essential for you, the D5600 might be a better solution though it hasn't been released yet and there's no price as of the moment. If the difference in the price between the two would be somewhere around a cost of an extra lens, the former might be a better idea.
