2NE1's Disbandment Is Official; CL, Dara Sign Solo Contracts With YG Entertainment; Park Bom Made Fans Hopeful With Social Media Post
Michelle GuanzonMany fans are mourning over the official announcement of YG Entertainment about disbanding 2NE1. While some are grieving for the sad news, others thanked CL, Dara, Park Bom, and Minzy for the seven years for their music.
On November 25, YG Entertainment officially announced 2NE1's disbandment.
"Our contract with 2NE1 came to an end in May of 2016, and as we faced a situation where Minzy is no longer with us, we ultimately came to a decision of 2NE1's official disbandment after long discussion," the agency stated.
"For the past 7 years, 2NE1 was a representative group of YG. We, too, cannot express how upset and disappointed we are. However, we judge that it'll be difficult to continue promoting. We decided that instead of looking forward to 2NE1's unpredictable promotions, we should rather focus on the solo promotions of the members," YG Entertainment added.
To recall, The girl group's youngest member, Minzy, officially left the group on April 5, but YG CEO Yang Hyun Suk expressed his desire to continue the group with the remaining three members. However, the three had not been sighted in group activities since. 2NE1's last group release was their second full-length album, "Crush" on Feb. 14, 2014.
The group's only activity last year was their surprise performance at 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA). The four members performed their hit songs "Fire" and "I Am the Best," which was recorded as the most viewed MAMA performance by a girl group.
"We sincerely appreciate everyone who loved 2NE1 and their music," the agency stated."Meanwhile, in May, YG renewed the contract with CL and Dara. Unfortunately, we officially announce that Park Bom did not have a renewal."
Meanwhile, Park Bom updated her fans with a video post on her social media account on the same day of the announcement of 2NE1's official disbandment, which made fans relieve and feeling hopeful.
