The need for an action camera continues to grow. In the name of camera, Sony is already an established brand, but how will it fare against Xiaomi, a lesser-known competition in the action camera field?

Today, we have Sony FDR-X3000 4K Action Cam and Xiaomi Yi 4k Action camera to check out.

The FDR-X3000 holds a Zeiss multicoated 35mm f/2.8 wide-angle lens. It also features an 8.2-megapixel 7.20mm back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, which paired with the wide-angle lens, results in pristine 16:9 videos.

Sony boast its BIONZ X processor while Yi comes with Ambarella chipset for its main processor.

On the other hand Yi 4K action cameras model includes a Sony IMX377 12-megapixel camera capable of shooting 4k video at 30 to 120 frames per second with the ability to capture time-lapse videos. Sony also offers 4k video with Loop Recording, Burst Shooting, Motion Shot LE, 4K Time-lapse capture and even Live Streaming.

In terms of working hours, the Yi 4K from Xiaomi offers 1400 mAH battery compared to Sony 3.6V battery pack.

There is a live view remote in fdr X3000 which is not attached to the camera. It can be used to view footage without removing the camera.

Both the YI 4K and the Sony X3000 go underwater with a waterproof case. SO, you can expect the audio quality to be low inside water.

However, the Sony FDR X3000 comes at $349 with waterproof case. For live view remote, you need to give extra $100. While, the Xiaomi action camera is a very good camera with a price tag of $250.

Now, if you're planning on using the camera over bumpy terrain the Balanced Optical SteadyShot technology used for image stabilization , then Sony is likely worth the extra cost and also you can view your recording on your wrist using live view remote. Still, the Xiaomi camera offers features worth its lighter price.
