Fans of the original "Cardcaptor Sakura" rejoice as the Clear Card Arc gets an anime adaptation series.

The television series is set to premiere in January 2018 on NHK and will be directed by Morio Asaka, the series' original director. The entire vocal cast of the original 1998 anime series will also make a comeback to reprise their roles, including Sakura Tange as title character Sakura Kinomoto, Aya Hisakawa as Keroberos, Junko Iwao as Tomoyo Daidouji, Motoko Kumai as Syaoran Li, Megumi Ogata as Yukito Tsukishiro, and Tomokazu Seki as Touya Kinimoto.

Animation studio Madhouse is also set to make a return on producing the anime series - however, as animation technology advanced rapidly over the past decades, it is quite unknown if the new anime series will be of the same animation style as its predecessor.

The recent announcement was also made in conjunction with the franchise's 20th Anniversary celebration. Earlier this year, series creators CLAMP launched the "Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card-hen" manga series, serving as a sequel to the original storyline. The manga was released on June 3rd.

The new anime series, based on the sequel manga, will tell about the story of Sakura Kinomoto as she graduates from Tomoeda Elementary School and finds herself being a junior high school student. Adjusting to her new, quiet life, she suddenly experienced a strange dream that made her worried and threatened.

"Cardcaptor Sakura" has once proved its huge popularity with its four-year manga series run from May 1996 to June 2000 that sold more than 12 million copies, and a two-season anime series from April 1998 to March 2000. Tokyopop, Dark Horse Comics, NIS America and Discotek helped to make the franchise reach the Western shores by providing the North American releases of the franchise's respective manga, anime series and anime movie releases.

It is hinted that the January issue of Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine would feature more details regarding the upcoming anime project. Stay tuned for updates.
