During this, Tuesday night's episode there will be a Chicago Fire - P.D crossover with Kelly Severide being the centre of the story. The show will return this new year with a bang with this major crossover.

This Chicago Fire - P.D crossover is a departure from usual crossovers as it will focus mainly on a character rather than a plot. As reported in Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Derek Haas said, "It is character-based than plot-based in a lot of ways."

When Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D return on January 3, Severide will be the prime suspect in a vehicular homicide which even he will not know he has committed or not. He will be shown drinking heavily due to the complications to Anna and would end up driving under the influence.

The Chicago Fire - P.D crossover will see the severide's former flame Erin Lindsay taking him into custody. Their past connection will hamper her ability to do her job, and she will try protecting Severide, as reported by TV guide.

Erin's current boyfriend Halstead will naturally take opposite approach and try everything in his means to prove Kelly guilty. He knows that this guy used to sleep with his current girlfriend and so he is pushing very hard to prove Severide guilty, destabilising everyone in the process.

The Chicago Fire - P.D crossover has been planned by the show makers keeping in mind that audiences are coming back from a winter break and a jolt may prepare everyone back for the upcoming season.

By the end of the crossover episode, we will know whether Severide had committed the crime or was he innocent. However, this case will have a profound impact on the Linstead as Halstead will somewhere feel that Lindsay still has feelings for her ex.
