Lenovo’s Amazon Alexa-powered Speaker And 6TB NAS Box Announced At CES 2017

Lenovo is finally into the smart home with its two new product announcements at the recent CES 2017 event. It launched a new Amazon-Alexa powered smart speaker and a wireless NAS box that assure to help tidy user's digital photo library using onboard facial recognition software.

The Lenovo Smart Assistant, costing at $130, has a cylindrical form with a pastel-colored fabric speaker grill that seems like to resemble a combination of both Google Home's and Amazon Echo's appearance. Its base model will come with a single tweeter which powered by a 5-watt amplifier and a 10-watt woofer.

The company also plans to offer a Harman Kardon Edition that will be available in black and costs $180 dollars. It will be available in light gray, green and orange colors.

According to PC World, Lenovo uses an array of six far-field microphones located on the top of the speaker to capture users' voice commands and queries coming from any direction with two additional mics in the middle. It is powered by Intel Celeron N3060 CPU with 8GB of onboard storage, and a 2GB DRAM. It will connect to the user's home Wi-Fi network with an onboard 1x1 802.11n Wi-Fi adapter; time will be equipped with a Bluetooth 4.0 radio.

On the other hand, the Lenovo Smart Storage includes all features that are expected from modern NAS boxes. Some of which include a one-touch data transfer from USB storage devices and an onboard DLNA server for streaming media.

But it also has features that make it different from its competitors onboard facial-recognition software to organize digital photo library based on faces and an onboard dual-band 2x2 802.11ac Wi-Fi adapter with an auto-sync feature that makes it automatically back-up wireless client devices that are in range.

Furthermore, the said box will be available in 2TB and 6TB configurations but as per reports, it will just have one 3.5-inch SATA drive inside. Possibly, it won't be able to operate in RAID mode. The Lenovo Smart Storage will be priced starting at $140. Both of these new products will be out in the market by May 2017.
