‘Gotham’ Season 3: Three Things That Could Happen In The Back Half Of The Season
"Gotham" season 3 has been taking viewers on quite a ride, and it looks like things will only get crazier when the second half of the season debuts next week. Apart from the imminent danger presented by the Court of Owls, Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) and Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) about to enter a full-on war, and more villains waiting to make their presence felt, the back half of "Gotham" season 3 will undoubtedly feature more death, mystery, and drama all around. Here are three things that could go down in the rest of the season 3 episodes.
Penguin will kill a main character
The midseason finale of "Gotham" season 3 saw Penguin about to go on a rampage. Things may not be looking so good for the villain right now, but this only means that he will be out to seek revenge in the coming episodes. After losing his mayorship, Penguin will unleash his wrath on his enemies. ComicBook.com suggests that this could mean that a main character, possibly either Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas) or Butch Gilzean (Drew Powell), will be the victim. It does seem possible that one of these two will not make it out of "Gotham" season 3 alive, given that neither has much of a comic book legacy. However, Penguin could also manage to get rid of either Nygma or Barbara Kean (Erin Richards).
Bruce and Selina will go their separate ways
While the teenaged versions of Batman and Catwoman seem headed for romantic bliss, given what these two characters' relationship is like with the source material, it seems unlikely that they will make it to the end of "Gotham" season 3 as a couple. In the coming episodes, the looming threat of the Court of Owls and Selina Kyle's (Camren Bicondova) mom could pull the two apart. Having Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and Selina's relationship deteriorate also sets up Selina's slide into the dark side and Bruce retreating into himself.
Jerome will be resurrected, only to be killed again -- for good, this time
Much of the speculation about "Gotham" season 3 revolves around the possibility that Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) will somehow be brought back to life and be re-introduced as the Joker. While there has been no confirmation of such, reports suggest that there will be a bigger twist that will follow Jerome's return from the dead. The character could be murdered and his identity (and face!) taken by someone else, who will then become the Joker. Interestingly, a photo from the upcoming episode "Smile Like You Mean It" shows Lee (Morena Baccarin) pulling a sheet off what appears to be Jerome's corpse, with skin from his face ripped off.
"Gotham" season 3 debuts Monday, Jan. 16, at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
