iPhone 4S vs. Samsung Galaxy S3 - Does Apple Stand a Chance?

Pooja Drubra

Samsung Galaxy S3 is creating a huge buzz. The smartphone has become a favorite of many and has created a monopoly in the market. Seeing the promising success of Galaxy S3, the insecurities of Apple are brewing and the iOS giant could have been prompted to launch its next iPhone, dubbed iPhone 5, even earlier than the scheduled time.

For the time being, Apple has its iPhone 4S to challenge the Galaxy S3. Let's see how well these phones compete with each other and which one scores more brownie points.

Screen

The iPhone 4S comprises a 3.5 inch screen and a resolution of 960x640 pixels. Samsung Galaxy S3 touts a 4.8 Super AMOLED screen with 1280x720 pixel resolution, which is larger and gives a more realistic output with the AMOLED technology.

Battery

The Galaxy S3 comes with a 2100 mAh battery and can stretch up to 8 hours normally. The 1420 mAh battery of iPhone 4S lasts only around 6 hours.

Design

While the Samsung Galaxy S3 has an amazing curvy but a plastic body and is easier to slip into pockets, the iPhone 4S has something more to boast about with its professional solid looks and a square body. iPhone 4S is smaller and easier to carry around. However, despite its huge size, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is as light as a feather.

Performance

A phone's performance is its most important aspect. The internal components determine the overall performance of a phone. The Galaxy S3 comprises a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor with a 2GB RAM. In comparison, iPhone 4S packs dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processor with 512MB RAM. iPhone 4S is noticeably slower than Galaxy S3 and lags when you open numerous programs together.

Talking about the multimedia experience, watching videos becomes a treat for your eyes on the Galaxy S3 owing to its larger screen. iPhone 4S doesn't stand a chance against it in this department with its 3.5-inch display (albeit Retina display). When it comes to cameras, both the phones boasts of 8-megapixel shooter. However, despite having the same camera resolution, the videos taken from the iPhone 4S are better in terms of sounds and visuals.

When it comes to storage, both phones offer a max 64GB internal storage but the S3 has an added advantage of support for a microSD card. It also has NFC and 4G LTE.

Web Browsing Experience

Galaxy S3 provides the best Web browsing experience ever on an Android device. However, when it comes to a smooth browsing, S3 faces issues accessing some Web pages. When it comes to iPhone 4S, there is a flawless Web browsing experience without any glitches. However, whenever any particular Web site takes up too much of memory, both smartphones goof up and reset to the homepage. Additionally, iPhone 4S does not support Adobe Flash.

Conclusion

Both the phones - Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 4S - comprise excellent features. However, in a majority of areas, the Galaxy S3 beats the iPhone 4S. This comparison may be unfair, however, as iPhone 4S was released at least 7 months before its Android rival made its debut. Let's wait for the next phenomenon - iPhone 5 -  to release in fall and we'll let you know which is the better smartphone.
