The London 2012 Olympics begins this Friday, July 27, and mobilenapps.com recently covered apps for not getting lost in London (easily done, considering how busy London will be). Below are notable apps for staying in touch with the two-week event, even if a TV or laptop isn't at hand.
BBC Olympics app
The obvious, and probably the best, Olympics app is the BBC one. Since the Olympics will be telecast live on the BBC, exclusively (without ads of course), the app will stream the content on to a mobile device. Live coverage of every event, as it happens.
Eurosport
If streaming video isn't an option - though considering there's free Wi-Fi on the tube, there's no reason to not watch the Olympics when moving - Eurosport does an excellent job of providing event notifications. Users can effectively subscribe to an event, and notifications appear when a result or noteworthy news story happens. There's also a news feed with the latest stories, for recapping news if video/audio isn't available.
NBC Olympics App
NBC is also launching two apps for iPhone and Android devices with news, on-demand video, photos, and the ability to view profiles and videos of Team USA, in the basic app. In addition, there's the Olympics Extra app for NBC, which has live video and replays from every event and is free to users with an NBC account.
CTVOlympics.ca
Canadians can also watch the Olympics with an app built especially for Canadians, by Canada's Olympics Media Broadcast Consortium, complete with live event results and on-demand video. Highlights, medal counts, and "medal moments" - presentations, presumably - during events are all thrown in with the app.
The CTV Olympics app is also free to download on iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7, and BlackBerry devices. It supports on-demand video, streaming of Consortium networks (namely CTV, TSN, and Sportsnet), "World Feeds" of events, along with competition results and schedules.
Official London 2012 Olympics Join In App
There's also the official London 2012 Olympics Join In app, listing events and celebrations from around London and the UK. Information on the Torch Relay through the Paralympics is also available. The official Results app has details of events through games, calendar schedules, event details, and athlete profiles.
