"The Crystal Maze," a British game show produced by Chatsworth Television, aired between 1990 and 1995 on Channel 4. Now, the show has been commissioned to air once again in 2017.

According to BBC, "The Crystal Maze" will be "coming back for a full series. The show's new Maze Master is Richard Ayoade, a British actor, comedian, television presenter, and writer.

In 2016, the game show briefly returned for a special celebrity edition for charity. "The Crystal Maze's" 2016 special episode was hosted by Stephen Merchant. The guests included Sara Cox, Josh Widdicombe, and Rio Ferdinand.

After the one-off episode's success last year, Channel 4 has commissioned a full series, stating that the move was a "no-brainer" after the positive reception of the 2016 special. "The Crystal Maze's" producers are now looking for interested teams made up of five members.

Each team will take on the "Aztec, Medieval, Industrial, and Future zones of the maze." Interested individuals are advised to wait patiently, as details on how to apply for the show will soon be announced.

The game show's "physical, mental, skill, and mystery challenges" will all be returning as participants try to gather the crystals within the time limit and bring them to the Crystal Dome. James Dillon, the original Crystal Maze designer, will also work on the new maze that will be built in Bristol.

In other news, The Independent has revealed that Tom Beck, Channel 4's Head of Live & Events, was looking forward to working with Ayoade. Beck said, "I couldn't be more pleased and excited that Richard has agreed to become the new Maze Master - he's an inspired choice."

It was also revealed that 2017's "The Crystal Maze" will feature at least twenty hour-long episodes. Actor Ayoade has previously starred in the British sitcom "The IT Crowd," and films such as "Hello Friend," "Bunny and the Bull," "Submarine," and "The Watch." He is also currently the host of the British television documentary series "Travel Man."
