"Samsung take note, next generation Lumia coming soon," tweeted Chris Weber, Nokia's vice president of sales and marketing.
This was tweeted just hours after Nokia and Samsung announced the planned September 5 event, where Nokia will showcase multiple Windows Phone 8 devices, and probably a Windows 8 tablet to boot.
Windows Phone 8 is the latest effort from Nokia and Microsoft to gain a meaningful foothold in the smartphone market. Nokia hopes that Windows Phone 8 will draw consumer interest with compelling new features, like include support for multicore processors up to 64 cores, higher screen resolution, expandable storage, NFC, and higher quality gaming with DirectX 11 support. Windows Phone 8 also features a new start screen with deeper customization options and the ability to back up all data to the cloud.
Microsoft has given only a partial list of the mobile OS's new features, fueling rumors that exciting news is coming on Sept. 5.
