LG Fixes 5K Monitor To Work Near WiFi Routers
Ceage SottoLG is addressing router proximity problems for its 5K Mac monitor. The company has finally ended its silence regarding flicking monitors when near WiFi routers.
In a post by Macworld, LG reportedly told Recode its plans to address the problem. Monitors manufactured after February 2017 would add extra shielding to prevent the issue. Existing monitors can also be retrofitted against the signal interference.
However, the report did not mention how owners can avail of the repairs. Existing LG 5K monitors do come with a one year warranty that includes labor and parts. The company has not yet released a statement on how to process the repairs. Tech insiders reveal that LG might be releasing a public statement soon.
New monitors with the extra shielding will be operating better near the router without issues. LG's 5K Mac monitors received complaints when owners noticed interference near routers. The problems allegedly start when the monitor is within 6.5 feet from a WiFi router.
The company's UltraFine monitor features a 27-inch display. It has a 5120 x 2880 resolution, a Thunderbolt 3 port and three USB 3.1 ports. It also has an impressive line of built-in media peripherals. It is equipped with a camera and stereo speakers. The device currently retails for $974.
TechCrunch noted that this pricing won't last forever. The 5K monitors are still on sale for Apple, but it's slated to return to its original price of $1300 by the end of March.
LG has not revealed any plans of how it will differentiate better-shielded monitors from older less shielded monitors. Aside from the company, Apple has been treating the issue with silence.
The extra shielding has been a breather for consumers that would want to buy the 5K monitor. In the meantime, people would have to wait for further details regarding the report. Stay tuned for updates.
