"Final Fantasy XV" is undoubtedly one of the most popular releases  of 2016. The game has been gaining a lot of attention from gamers. However, how many copies did it take for Square Enix to get back the cost of developing the game?

DualShockers interviewed "Final Fantasy XV" director Hajime Tabata and asked the same question. Tabata answered and revealed that it only took them one day to earn back the development cost of "FFXV." That being said, the game has already been profitable since the day it was released which was November 29.

After the release of "Final Fantasy XV," Square Enix has announced that they have already shipped over 5 million copies of the game. Out of all the "Final Fantasy" titles, the 15th installment of the main series was the fastest selling game during its debut. Adding to what director Tabata said, it only took the game over five million copies to bring in profit for the company. However, the development costs were not specified, only that the first-day sales of "Final Fantasy XV" was enough.

According to TechnoBuffalo, nobody anticipated "Final Fantasy XV's" fiscal success. Even Square Enix, its publisher and developer, originally thought that the game will still be making up for its development costs.

In addition, "Final Fantasy XV" is also being used as a development environment for visual fidelity,  according to the game's director. It also seems like more additional contents are on the way as 70% of the game's staff is working on it.

The developers have released two trailers for the much-awaited Episode Gladiolus and Episode Prompto DLC. These contents will enable "Final Fantasy XV" players to play and dive into the backstories of two of the characters who have always been by Prince Noctis' side.
