Every year, Google traditionally releases a major update to the Android OS. Since the last update was released on October 2016, the Android version 7.1 Nougat, it is expected that another major update is coming this 2017.

If you look at all the Android OS version names, you will notice that it is named alphabetically. So, since the last version is Nougat, it is probable that the next name will start with letter "O." Also, every version is named after candies and sweets, and it could be assumed that the upcoming Android version 8 will be named the same way.

Google hasn't announced any major update for Android OS this year, but many critics and reports are already speculating the features that might be coming with the rumored Android 8.0 O. The number one feature rumored in the new Android update is Virtual Reality. As the technology progresses, VR experience using Android phones or smartphones is not impossible to happen these coming months.

In 2016, Apple ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7, and now Samsung Galaxy S8 and other upcoming smartphones are expected to follow this trend. It could also mean that any possible upcoming mobile OS updates like the Android version 8.0 will not support the headphone jack anymore.

As reported by International Business Times, due to the fast evolution of technology, automobiles are becoming smarter and smartphone features are improved by some companies today. With the Android 8.0, Google is expected to venture further into smart vehicles, especially since the company's own projects such as its self-driving cars are in the works.

According to KnowYourMobile, the Android 8.0, or "Android 8.0 Oreo" as they presumed, will get a public release in August or September this year. And for which phone will get the update first, there is a possibility that Google's new Pixel devices will be the first ones on the list.
