2018 Ford Expedition Powertrain Figures Leaked, V6 Variant to Have 400 HP and 480 LBF/FT of Toque [VIDEO]
During the recently held 2017 Chicago Auto Show, Ford unveiled their latest full-size SUV, the 2018 Ford Expedition. While the company had unveiled a lot of the new features and specs for their new vehicle, Ford hadn't really mentioned any of its official powertrain figures. Now, new reports have apparently leaked those figures ahead of Ford's planned announcement.
Ford proudly stated during the event that the new 2018 Ford Expedition was basically going to have more power, more towing capacity, and better fuel economy than the current generation Ford Expedition. The only numbers that Ford mentioned are that the vehicle will actually be 300 pounds lighter than the outgoing model thanks to an all-aluminum exterior.
2018 Ford Expedition: Leaked Figures
While Ford hasn't actually revealed the powertrain numbers, the company did mention that the 2018 Ford Expedition was going have a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. According to Motor1, their sources had revealed that the engine itself is reportedly going to have 400 horsepower and 480 pounds-feet of torque. These figures are significantly more than the 365 horses available on the outgoing model.
Based on Ford's claim of a better economy, it wouldn't be hard to imagine it to be true given that the 2018 Ford Expedition's engine is going to be mated to a new 10-speed automatic transmission. The automatic gearbox is reportedly built in partnership with General Motors and offers different modes including rear wheel drive (RWD) and all wheel drive (AWD).
According to Fox News, Ford has yet to officially confirm if the powertrain figures are indeed accurate, but based on their statements the 400 horsepower and 480 pounds-feet figures seems to be possible. Aside from the power figures, the new SUV will be coming with an all-new interior, a newly designed exterior, and a slew of connectivity options and functionalities. The 2018 Ford Expedition is expected to be rolled out in the fourth quarter of this year.
