Due to the lack of confirmation or launch dates from Apple for the iPad Mini 5 and iPad Air 3, there are now fresh speculations that the Cupertino-based tech giant would instead come up with an update on the iPad range. The announcement would be made on March 2017, along with the possible launch of the Apple Pencil 2.

iPad Pro Instead Of iPad Air Line

MacWorld reports that when Apple announced in March 2016 the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and not the iPad Air 3 as expected, some Apple fans thought the tech giant would discontinue the iPad Air line and instead stick to a Pro branding in the future for tablets with 9.7- and 12.9-inch displays.

The tech website, however, cites U.K. rumors that the iPad Air 3 would likely release in March 2016. But it also acknowledges that no iPads showed up at the iPhone 7 launch in September and the MacBook Pro event in October, making future iPad Air models uncertain.

Apple Pencil 2 With Magnet

However, in January 2017, an Asian supply-chain of Apple claimed it would be an updated iPad that would be announced in March 2017, together with the Apple Pencil 2, according to Wei Feng, a Chinese-language tech news site. It adds the Apple Pencil 2 could possibly include a magnet to attach to the iPad Pro’s side.

Another Apple expert, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo adds to the growing number of people who believe the iPad will no longer come out in the mini form. Instead, he believes the next iPad would come in 12.9-inch, 10- to 10.5-inch and 9.7-inch versions, The Christian Post reports.

Ming-Chi Kuo adds the 12.9-inch mode would be the second-generation of the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro, while the 10- to 10.5-inch model would become the high-end model to feature a narrow bezel design and the 9.7-inch model the low-priced alternative.
