Team Ninja may have surpassed itself with its latest. Despite the fact that Team Ninja's previous releases haven't been winners, "Nioh" could be the redemption they have been banking on. Team Ninja probably took some inspiration from the game "Dark Souls" and spun it into gold.

In previous reviews and commentaries from the gaming population, "Nioh" has appeared or may at first appear to be a clone of the "Dark Souls" series spread across various points. Although these comparisons have lot of footing, the game confidently steps out from these associations.

Team Ninja's Comeback Shot

Team Ninja creative director Tom Lee said that they are considering "Nioh" as a long-awaited chance to return to what it loves and what it does best. Lee isn't wary about how much Team Ninja has strived, recounting the last generation of console hardware as a tough chapter where they felt pretty lost. "Nioh" is Team Ninja's shot to move past that chapter, reports Polygon.

"There was a period where the industry had seemingly shifted toward a more accessible approach to console games, and the hardcore action genre was struggling for relevancy," Lee continues. He said that in their effort to pull a wider audience, they drifted away from their foundations, integrity, and eventually their identity.

"Nioh:" Definitely More Than A "Dark Souls" Clone

Clearly and openly, "Nioh" is a game inspired by FromSoftware's "Dark Souls" series. Both may be set amid ruin and gothic despair, the fantasy elements in "Nioh," though, have deep, meaningful connections to the history of Japan -- but fictionalized version of feudal Japan, writes The Guardian. Whereas, "Dark Souls" takes place in an entirely imagined universe. This is perhaps the most striking difference between the two games -- the setting.

Moreover, "Nioh" firmly separates itself from the comparatively slow pacing of the combat in "Dark Souls" to achieve a more fluid, reactionary combat system. Furthermore, the gambling approach was a basic of the combat in the "Dark Souls" series, and "Nioh" goes to lengths to put its own twist on the risk v reward system. With all these between the two games, "Nioh" is awesome in its own right and certainly much more than a clone.
