“Outlander” Season 3 fans - especially those who have followed the source books - are well aware that the on-screen couple, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are not going to stay long in Scotland. After filming a few episodes in the rustic country, the cast and crew of the Starz show are now headed to South Africa.

Claire and Jamie separated in time and space during the late episodes of “Outlander” Season 2 and the early episodes of “Outlander” Season 3. The couple will be back together in each other’s arms when the show’s third seasons returns in September 2017.

Heughan and Balfe have developed such a close friendship ever since they started to co-star in the highly acclaimed period drama. They have gotten so used to each other’s company that Heughan thinks being apart from his co-star is like “having a death in the family.”

Having to film without Balfe was “like a different show.” “It is hard to separate yourself from the character,” Heughan told Vanity Fair. “It is always hard when we are apart, actually, because she is a great person, great to come to work with, and a very good actress.”

Although “Outlander” Season 3 fans already know that there is going to be an incoming reunion between Claire and Jamie, Sam Heughan still will not let up with the spoilers. “I think it all adds to the reunion - if there is a reunion, or when there is a reunion,” he added. “Well, you know there is one in the books. It should be very special.”

When “Outlander” Season 3 returns to small screens in September 2017, Caitriona Balfe hinted that there will be “some other sex going on.” “I do no think the sex is going to be as scarce as last season,” the actress revealed.
