"Civilization 6" is getting a massive DLC this Summer, and it just so happens to include Australia. The "Australian Summer 2017 Update" has been confirmed for "Civilization 6," and it will be adding Australia to the roster of playable civilizations. Their own 14th Prime Minister, John Curtin, will be joining them as a new leader. Other features coming with the DLC include team multiplayer and Steam Workshop functionality.

New Civilization: Australia

CNET confirms Australia as the newest playable civilization in "Civilization 6." They'll be led by the 14th Prime Minister, John Curtin, who will be bringing extra production at the start of a defensive war, "as well as a charming Aussie hat and fob watch on your screen." Although he only served as Prime Minister for four years, the fact that he led Australia through World War 2 makes him a great choice.

According to Kotaku, Australia's military unit will be the "Digger." They get bonus combat strength when fighting outside friendly territory. The same bonus applies when fighting on land tiles adjacent to water. Their Unique Improvement goes by the name of "Outback Station." It provides food and production, with bonus food for adjacent tiles. A "culture bomb" effect gets triggered by new pastures, giving the ability to steal adjacent tiles from other civilizations.

As mentioned earlier, John Curtin's ability will grant Australia bonus production at that start of a defensive war. His "Citadel of Civilisation" will also grant bonus production whenever Australia liberates a city. Australia's own unique civ ability gives extra housing when built on coastal tiles. The "Land Down Under" also allows for campuses, commercial hubs, holy sites, and theatre squares to get additional yields when built on tiles with charming or breathtaking appeal.

Australian Summer 2017 Update

While no exact release date for this "Civilization 6" new DLC has been mentioned, the name suggests we can expect Australia sometime in the summer. This update will also bring two new features: multiplayer functionality, where you can team up with other players and go head-to-head against other civs or AI, and the addition of Steam Workshop. The Steam Workshop functionality will act as a central hub for player-generated content.
