Nina Dobrev's Elena Gilbert is finally returning to "The Vampire Diaries," for real this time. The actress has finally decided to return to the show to give it a proper send off for its final season. Fans will undoubtedly be ecstatic to see Dobrev return in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

To further build the hype around Elena's return, the network has now released a brand new series finale teaser trailer that shows the exact moment when Elena wakes up from her coffin. Elena is shown to still harbor a lot of feeling for Damon Salvatore, played by Dobrev's ex Ian Somerhalder. The two immediately fall into each other's arms and hug it out after having not seen each other for quite a while.

Damon's brother Stefan, played by Paul Wesley, is witness to the epic reunion and appears to be very happy for his brother and Elena. Elena was last seen in "The Vampire Diaries" season 6 where she was cursed by Kai, played by Chris Wood, to be asleep until her best friend Bonnie, played by Kat Graham, is dead. Dobrev's exit from the show was rumored to be due to her breakup from her off screen and on screen partner, Somerhalder.

According to Hollywood Life, "The Vampire Diaries" has been finding ways to stay afloat over the years, but Dobrev's departure had a big impact on the show's overall viewership. However, now that Dobrev has returned, the show will undoubtedly be featuring quite an amazing ending that should appease its die-hard fans.

As per a report from Rappler, Elena of course has a lot of catching up to do and there still remains to be a lot of unanswered questions. With Elena already awake, it might be possible that Bonnie could be dead. Elena also doesn't know that Stefan is already human again and that Enzo, played by Michael Malarkey, has already been killed.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is scheduled to premiere its new episodes on March 10 in the United States. The new season will be comprised of 16 episodes and will feature the conclusion of the series.
